Traditional Therapy

The Space I Create

My priority in working with each person is to create a space that feels safe. In my experience, this is the only way for deep work to occur. Within that safe, therapeutic container, I grow curious about each person’s experience of their reality so that, as a pair, we can work to understand how those experiences have shaped their current struggles. Together, we can begin identifying paths forward.

Who I Work With

The single greatest predictor of how successful a person will be in therapy is their outlook. I thrive in collaboration with individuals who have reached a point in their lives where they know they want things to look different and are ready to do the work to make a change—even if they don't know quite what that looks like yet.

If you're finding yourself unhappy with how your life is unfolding, I'm here to help you figure out why and what we can do about it.

How I Approach Therapy

I leverage a number of different therapeutic models, often combining them in unique ways to serve the particular interests of the person before me.

  • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on solutions rather than problems. It emphasizes identifying and amplifying the person's strengths and resources to facilitate positive change. I find it can be a powerful shift in thinking to focus on what is within your control, therefore more realistically achievable.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) highlights the connection between thought patterns, emotional responses, and behavioral activation. For some, being able to identify thought patterns, make adjustments and modifications can impact the relationship enough to bring about desired behavioral response.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an integrative approach that views the mind as a system of different "parts". It explores how these parts are created, supported and interact with each other. The end goal is to help individuals cultivate harmony and balance within themselves. I am not classically trained in this modality but find the conversation and skills to be effective with individuals with traumatic backgrounds.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) reinforces myself as the observer and supporter of the person I am working with. Using MI, we explore and resolve ambivalence towards behavior change by reinforcing the person's own reasons for change. MI is empathetic, non-confrontational, and seeks to empower individuals to make decisions that align with their values and goals.

  • I am currently paneled with Highmark BC/BS, United HealthCare and UPMC insurance plans. If you have questions about coverage, you can call Member Services on your insurance card for additional information of cost for service.

  • For those interested outside of the above mentioned insurance plans, I do have a sliding scale for self-pay individuals. It is based on household income and can be shared upon request.

  • I currently offer both forms. Generally, I am in-person 1 day a week and offer virtual sessions throughout the rest of the week. I find both to be effective and you would not be locked into a particular form.
